3 3 facts about Artarmon:
1. The suburb is believed to be named after the land granted to William Gore in 1810. Gore had arrived in Sydney in 1805 with Governor Bligh, who appointed him to the position of Provost-Marshall (equivalent to sheriff). Gore’s family home was Ardthelmon Castle (pronounced Art-e-mon), located near Raghley in Ireland, and the name was ‘adapted’ by Gore as Artarmon Estate.
2. A temporary Artarmon railway station opened on 6 July 1898, before the present station opened on 7 October 1900. In April 2015, work commenced on the construction of a new footbridge that will include lifts at the southern end of the platform.
3. Artarmon Public School was named best public school in the 2008 NSW Schools of Excellence awards. There are more then 1000 students in 2015.
